Operant behavior is applied to suppress a certain behavior (Weiner & Craighead, 2010). Operant behavior is affected by consequences though it is not a try and error.

This was when a research physician found out that sounds too can affect the behavior of an animal. This research was done using a dog that did salivate not only in the presence of meat alone but in the presence of the person who normally served it or on hearing a certain sound before the food is presented to it (Pollard, 2004). He discovered what is known as classical learning, which is a form of associate learning. This created more research fields of behavior the aim was to observe reactions in a controlled experiment. These studies paved way for objective studies in psychology.
