Business firms operating in the modern world must diversify in both brands and segments of work place. It is no longer sufficient to embrace only a diversified employee base. Mitigating the requirements of the multifaceted marketplaces in the economy is no longer enough. If a company desires to succeed in the current challenging economy, it must respect different philosophies, cultures and ideologies. Thus, diversity in management is essential in the current state of economic affairs. Diversity in workplace helps the organizations to attract businesses, corporations and government talents from almost all the directions. It also helps the companies to tap emerging new markets and enjoy the fruits of efficient government policies (Cook, 24). Managing diversity in the firms involves observing legal and policy requirements in a very simple manner. In the current epoch diversity in workplaces helps companies to promote community and comfort with differences (Williams 17). Finally diversity in the workplaces helps firms to achieve successful growth in the long run. Workplace diversity provides immense benefits to an organization. The business firms can expand their thoughts outside-the-box and enjoy efficient teamwork with diversity in managements. A cordial atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect is enjoyed by the workers in an organization that diversifies its workplace. “A company’s performance is always linked to its ability to recruit the right people. People want to work for companies that demonstrate that diversity matters. There needs to be a sustained culture assault down the supply chain that business must encourage.” (Shakhray 6). Current Workplace Diversity As the nations all around the world are getting diverse in their characteristics, the workplaces are also diversifying. Any economy that is diversified in nature is considered as a strong economy. By embracing the changing demographics of the nations all around the world, business corporations are also reaping the economic advantages of diversification of their workplaces (Sanchez and Heene 34). In order to compete in the growing economy, it is important for the business organizations to select the brightest talent in their agencies. This is easily executed in the current era with diversification of management of the workplaces. More innovative and creative solutions are formulized nowadays by the business firms by diversifying in terms of experiences and skills. Significant improvement in both workplace productivity and work performance can be enjoyed by the firms in the current economy with the help of diversification of bureau. Briefly, diversity of work is the actual key that is responsible to foster the economic growth of the current period. Case Study: Workforce Diversity in U.S. U.S. is a highly developed country in the world both in terms of social and economical development. The rate of urbanization in the country is above 80%. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as well as GDP per Capita is improving significantly in U.S. with time. About 79.7% of the total population in U.S. is engaged in the service sector. The service sector of the country is highly diverse in terms of skill, race, gender etc. Approximately 155,163,000 was the labor force of U.S. in July 2012. This strength included the workers who were actively employed as well as those who were seeking employments. Figure 1: Workforce diversity in US (Source: American Progress, “The State of Diversity in Today’s Workforce”) The graph above enumerates the current workforce diversity in the U.S. market in 2011 in the employment sector. It is visualized from the above graph that 16.49% of the total workforce works in the state owned public sectors in U.S. 10.58% and 3.8% are the proportions of the people working in the local and state level working bodies of the government respectively. Only 2.11% of people are working in the Federal body of the government. However, the proportion of workers in the private sector is as high as 83.51% (American Progress “The State of Diversity in Today’s Workforce”). All the above statistics are emphasizing the partial workforce participation rate in U.S., where most of the people working in the economy are in the private sectors. Diversification of workforce in management can be in terms of various factors. The essay now briefly concentrates in the racial diversification of the workforce in U.S. Figure 2: Racial Diversification (Source: American Progress, “The State of Diversity in Today’s Workforce”) The above pie chart shows that till 2012 almost 64% of the labor forces in U.S. were the Non Hispanic white people. Most of the working people in U.S. are Whites. Diversification might also be suited in terms of genders in different races in United States. Figure 3: Gender Diversification (Source: American Progress, “The State of Diversity in Today’s Workforce”) The above graphs show that approximately both among the African American as well as the Hispanics, the gender disparity in terms of working is low. Inequality of gender is less in U.S. because of the high literacy level of the nation. Rather it is evident that the empowerment of the African American women is more than that of men. The above case study only emphasized diversity in employment in the workplace. The extent and scope of diversity is not limited in terms of race and gender in employment at workplace. Age, ethnicity, sexual orientation and physical attribute are also other segments that are highly diversified in nature in the current business corporations (Fineman 55). Advantages of diversity in Workplace In the current era workplace diversity brings together different talents who work together to achieve a common goal. Productivity and retention improves in the working process with such diversification of skills. Innovations and creativity is common to almost all the organizations in nowadays (Croome 13). The pool of diversified professionals in a company coordinates and works for the best solutions for current business decisions. The consumers enjoy a wide range of goods and services in the market that helps them to augment their utility thresholds. This is only possible because organizations now have become highly skilful in terms of work by diversifying their resources. Thus, competitive edge in an organization is achieved only with the benefit of diversification. Differences in language skills of the workers help companies to grow global and enjoy the fruits of a wide customer base. Business firm all over the world have successfully reduced their operating costs by diversifying their workforce. Litigation expenses have also reduced with the benefits of variations in business operations. In the 21st century diversification of the workforces has helped firms to expand their market shares in the economy (Esty 27). The benefits of diversification are evident when one observes the growing revenue of the modern business organizations. The global market is getting highly competitive in the current epoch; at this juncture it is never possible for a firm to succeed in the industry without diversification. Consumer’s tastes and preferences are changing faster in the modern world. The companies need to be highly active in terms of operations and innovation at every stage in the world of consumerism. This is only possible with diversification of management in workplaces Conclusion Although management diversification is important and beneficial but still there are many disadvantages associated with it. Often diversity in the workforce makes the minority groups feels excluded. This is because the organizations provide extra attention to these workers. The amount of conflicts in the workforce increases with diversity. The level of internal communication becomes weak with diversity in workplaces. The costs of management also increase with variability in management in the workforces. Diversity in the management of workplaces augments the possible solutions in a business and thereby improves its creativity. In the current state of globalized environment, it is not possible to run an organization successfully without assortment of its operations. The management officials must effectively overcome the difficulties and accomplish the benefits of diversification (Daft 5).
