Extract of sample "Ways in Which Wasted Solution Could Be Recycled"

The first mixture that was investigated was that of sodium hydroxide and sulphuric waste solution sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) also known as Glauber’s salt was obtained by reacting sodium hydroxide with sulphuric acid:2NaOH (aq) + H2SO4(aq) Na2SO4 (s) + 2H2O(l)Sodium sulfate has several uses that include: manufacture of detergents, making textile and glasses and in a pulping paper in the kraft process.

This solid is thus a useful product and can be sold t companies involved in textile, paper, and detergent manufacturing. was found that besides it is possible to create useful solids like the one mentioned above, some of the waste solutions could also be recycled and be used for commercial purposes. Sodium hydroxide is one of the components found in waste solutions and can be used in the manufacture of paper, rayons, home cleaners, and soaps. Sulphuric acid is another component found in waste solutions and can be used in petroleum refining, processing metals, and the production of fertilizers.

Wastewater can be used for irrigation, drinking, or cleaning. Barium chloride and sulphuric acid were other mixtures that were investigated. is another solid that was found in the mixture. This is another useful solid that can be utilized in the production of medicine as a heart and muscle stimulant and as a water softener. Moreover, it can be used in the manufacture of boiler detergent, caustic soda, pigment, pesticides, stabilizer 4, and polymers. Barium sulfate was obtained by mixing barium hydroxide (Ba(OH) 2 and sulphuric acid (H2SO4) as shown in the equation below: Ba(OH)2 (aq) + H2SO4 (aq) BaSO4 (aq) + 2H2O(l)Barium sulfate (BaSO4) has several practical uses such as medical imaging processes, it is a component of oil drilling fluid and a filler in plastic or rubber.

The third mixture to be investigated was the mixture of hydrogen chloride and silver nitrate that produced silver chloride according to the following equation: AGNO3 (aq) + HCl (aq) AgCl(aq) + HNO3(aq)Silver nitrate has several uses which include making eye drops for children, plating jewelry and wrist watches, in dentistry, making mirrors and explosives. Hydrogen chloride is also useful in that it is used in electroplating, pickling, and cleaning metals, as an anti-microbial agent, as a sensitizer in photography, decorating itching of high-quality steel, and making photochromic glasses.

Nitric acid which is one of the end products of the reaction is used in the production of fertilizer, making nitrate salts, extraction of metals, colorimetric tests, making drugs and dyes, and the explosive industry. The final mixture consisted of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and zinc nitrate (Zn(NO3) 2. The two reacted as shown in the reaction below: NaOH (aq) + (Zn(NO3) 2 (aq) NaNO3 (aq) + Zn(OH)2 aqZinc hydroxide has many uses which include the manufacture of pesticides, manufacture of drugs, in paint, rubber, pigment, and batteries.
