A Generalized Perspective Introduction Depression in medical and psychological terms is considered as a negative factor that isolates an individual from the surrounding social environment. The provided case describes about the depressive condition of Peter, a 35 year old married individual with two children. Based on the provided case scenario, observations can be attained regarding the deteriorating mental condition of Peter due to the excessive workload. The side effect of his deteriorating mental state also appeared to have hampered the relationship between him and his wife. In addition, the deteriorating mental condition of Peter is also accountable for influencing his physical stability. As a result, Peter has been consulting medical and psychological practitioners for improving his present condition (The Australian Psychological Society Limited, 2014). In this regard, the discussion focuses on understanding the deteriorating condition of Peter both from the psychological and behavioral perspective. The details regarding these aspects have been provided in the undermined sections. Discussion Peter’s Nature From a generalized perspective, Peter’s nature can be described as a family oriented person who doubts himself to be a victim of leukemia due to his sudden experience to insomnia and loss of energy. It can be also observed that due to excessive work burden on him, Peter has entered a state of depression, which is turn has adversely affected his relationship with family members. Moreover, one positive aspect about Peter that can be stated that he has not reached the extreme stage of depression that often leads to suicidal tendency within patients suffering from depression (State Government of Victoria, 2014). Likewise, in medical terms, multiple instances can be observed where depressed patients tend towards committing suicide attempts to overcome tension and guilt feelings. However, Peter being a sound person is considered in that category. Rather he tended towards undergoing proper medical attention for coming out of his depressive stage and re-strengthening his bondage with the family. Other crucial aspect of Peter’s nature is regarding his open mindedness. Rather than being hesitative, Peter appeared to be open enough in discussing his issues with the medical consultants along with his wife regarding the support sought from his secretary. Considering these factors, Peter can be considered as a strong person in nature having the ability to face challenges in an effective manner (Black Dog Institute, 2014; The Australian Psychological Society Limited, 2014). Regional Analysis In accordance with the case scenario, multiple locations have been described of which Peter is an inhabitant. Moreover, depending on the locations, the barriers to mental health care may also vary depending on the availability of medical support. In this context, the regional town in which Peter resides with his family may restrain in attaining appropriate mental health care. Moreover, from the provided case, it can be identified that the regional town where Peter resides with his family is not acquainted with appropriate medical practitioners who can offer appropriate medication and psychological consultation for improving the deteriorating condition of Peter. One instance in this context is regarding a person who is suffering from syndromes such as depression and residing in a small town with inadequate medical facility (The State of Queensland, 2014). Treatment of patients subjected to depression requires constant observation and counseling sessions, which in turn demands the presence of experienced medical and psychological doctors. In this regard, lack of experienced medical and psychological practitioners is a barrier in providing appropriate care and treatment to mental health patients. Moreover, carrying out the treatment procedure will also require the presence of appropriate medical facilities that may not be available in majority of the small towns or underdeveloped localities. Apart from all these barriers, the social stigma and the thinking patterns of the inhabitants of the Peter’s locality regarding his deteriorating mental state and family issues may act like a major barrier towards attainment of effective mental health care. Pressing Concerns, Strengths and Weaknesses Effective evaluation of the provided case would aid in bringing about multiple pressing issues that are accountable for the deteriorating mental condition of Peter. One of such pressing issue is the official work pressure, which appears to have traumatized Peter’s present mental state. In fact, this issue can be termed as the root cause of all the other issues that Peter has become a victim of mental depression. Additionally, the widening gap between Peter and his wife named Gail can again be considered as another pressing concern deteriorating the stability and the integrity within the family. The miscommunication between them is severely hampering the mental stability of Peter, which in turn is pushing him to think about multiple negative perceptions about himself. The negative social stigma can be considered as another pressing concern accountable for the deteriorating present mental health state of Peter. The inappropriate understanding levels of the inhabitants within Peter’s locality may further turn out to be barriers for Peter to attain appropriate medical and psychological attention. Moreover, due to the combined negative impact of all these negative factors, Peter’s health has suffered severe setback and would require considerable amount of time in terms of becoming normal. Thus, it can also be considered as a pressing concern for the provided case. Apart from all these, the subsequent loss of interest from all other aspects of life and hobbies has also contributed to the situational deterioration of Peter. Likewise, even after being truthful to his wife, Peter was still subjected to multiple false acquisitions from his wife regarding his relationship disloyalty for having extra marital affairs. In addition, the non-availability of appropriate treatment facility and medical practitioners within the locality may also reduce Peter’s chances of overcoming from his deteriorated mental situation. Respectively, it can be considered to be falling under the category of a pressing concern (Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health, 2014). Taking into consideration of all the above concerning aspects, multiple strength factors can be held accountable as projected through the actions of Peter. One such strengths factor that can be witnessed within Peter is regarding his willingness to fight the situation. In addition, the factor can be also considered as vital in terms of improving the present condition of Peter. In addition, Peter’s openness in terms of explaining himself and his deteriorating mental situation to the concerned medical practitioners can again be considered as another strength factor, which would aid in reviving from the present mental health condition. The avoidance of suicidal tendency that appears to be common in depression patients can be considered as another strength factor for supporting Peter with the fighting chance of ending up his present deteriorated mental state. Above all the good chances of recovering from the complex situation as suggested by Peter’s family doctor can also be a major strength for Peter (Headspace, 2013). In a similar perspective, Peter’s open nature is identified to have deteriorated the situation. For instance, rather than confronting to his wife regarding the support sought from his secretary, Peter could have made efforts towards explaining his wife the cause of his deteriorating situation. Thus, it can be considered as a potential weakness projected by Peter. Moreover, instead of consulting with the locality doctor, he could have directly consulted with a psychological expert who in turn could have helped Peter in terms of recovering from the issue in a better manner with appropriate care as well as treatment services. Moreover, his belonging to a society where mental illness such as depression is perceived from a negative aspect can be considered as another weakness factor for Peter. Additionally, stability in the confidence level of Peter can be also be considered as a considerable strength factor without which he would have faced multiple difficulty in returning back to his normal state (Australia. gov. au, 2009) Medical Disciplines Helping In Overcoming Depression Patients suffering from depression and anxiety related disorders cannot be treated just through medication or psychological suggestion. The entire procedure has to be carried out in a step by step systematic fashion and requires investment of considerable amount of timing, patience and willingness. Considering these aspects, it can be stated that yoga can be a prime discipline that would help in nullifying the adverse effects of depression and work related pressure (Beyondblue, 2014). Yoga practitioners might gradually help Peter by suggesting him about the procedures of maintaining a balance between the body and the mind. An appropriate health gradually means better capability of Peter in coordinating and balancing his work and personal life. This will also help him in releasing the daily accumulated level of mental pressure (The Yoga Foundation, 2014). Apart from Yoga, Peter and his wide should also consult a psychologist who in turn would assess the gravity of the negative situation and accordingly, recommend appropriate solutions to both Peter and his wife. A psychologist would also help in developing an appropriate understanding between Peter and his wife and thus, provide them with a second chance of improving their family bondage and confidence (The Australian Psychological Society Limitedc, 2014). Furthermore, Peter in order to revive from his mental state condition with appropriate care and treatment is required to consult a General Practitioner (GP). GP would evaluate the present physical and mental state of Peter and accordingly, recommend him with appropriate medication for improving his deteriorating health conditions effectively (Australian Government Department of Health, 2014). Moreover, if situation goes beyond control, then GP can direct Peter and his wife to a renowned ‘mental health specialist’ who can understand the situation in a more appropriate manner. The situation of Peter and his wife can be also improved by having appropriate counseling sessions from social workers belonging from the areas of mental health. These specialists can assist Peter in identifying the situations in an in-depth manner about the state of depression within the patients. Eventually as the intensity of the problematic state minimizes, the chance of developing a better and lasting relationship between Peter and his wife gradually rises (SHRM, 2014). Counseling in this context would also act as effective disciplines through which the overall state of the situation can be improved. In this context, Peter and his wife would require to have periodic counseling sessions from psychological counselors (The Australian Psychological Society Limitedb, 2014). These practitioners through appropriate conversation would minimize the communicational gap between the couple due to certain misunderstanding within them, which is affecting their relationship. In extreme cases, the psychological counselors would also suggest patients such as Peter to be admitted to medical facilities for receiving appropriate medication, mental and physical attention. Regardless of the above, occupational therapists who are expertise in the areas of mental sickness and disorders would appear to be appropriate disciplines for improving the deteriorated conditions between Peter and his wife. The occupational therapist could help Peter in balancing the level of stress within his work environment and thus, maintaining a stability within his mind and behavior (Occupational Therapy Australia Ltd, 2014). In this respect, the aforementioned medical disciplines would help Peter and his wife in overcoming relationship complexities and accordingly, would aid Peter in reviving from his present mental health situation. Thus, through appropriate counseling, the overall misunderstanding between Peter and his wife can be eventually mitigate, which in turn would help them in reverting back to normal life. Conclusion It can be comprehended from the above discussion and case scenario that excessive work place would affect the mental orientation balance of the employees causing multiple abnormities such as insomnia and depression. These in turn gradually hampers family relationship and societal integration of such employees, which are accountable for affecting psychological condition. Thus as a counter measure, it becomes the prime responsibility of such patients to have consult periodically with practitioners or experts in the areas of mental health care. These practitioners through appropriate medication and long term counseling would gradually help such mentally ill patients in coming out of their deteriorated conditions and thus, provide them with better reviving chances to get back to their normal state of life. From the provided case, it can be understood that Peter will have to undergo simultaneous counseling and medication sessions for coming out of the state of depression, which he has been subjected to as a result of excessive work pressure from the construction company in which he works. Moreover, it can also be stated that Peter will have to maintain quality time with his family for binding family relationship. References Australian Government Department of Health. (2014).
