Website Analysis Criteria Criteria to analyze websites highlight the distinction on the suitability of the content in order to rank the websites on their presentation (Kapoun, 1998, p522). The topic on human resource management (HRM) appearing as the main point of attraction is discussed below in the two websites chosen for analysis. In HRM, authority and responsibilities over a particular employee at the place of work are defined by the engagement terms which are followed in line with the organizational objectives (Falcone, 2002, p3). To this end, matters of firing and hiring employees become very definitive of the overall performance of the organization thereby placing the HRM department at the forefront of operations. Insights on issues affecting firing and hiring can be sought from various websites such as www.humanresourcemanagement.co.uk and www.urgentbusinessforms.com. An analysis of these websites reveals the suitability of each in answering questions on the criteria used to analyze websites, mainly highlighting authority and objectivity of the presentation alongside the application of graphic styles. www.humanresourcemanagement.co.uk1 has a specific scope that touches on the proper procedure of firing staff during the meeting that cracks the rather bad news to the employee. There is an emotional attachment of the difficulty with which firing an employee presents to the human resource manager. In terms of objectivity on the social implication of firing, the website concisely presents the actual underlying implications that go beyond proceedings of a well outlined organizational routine of hiring and firing (Muller, 2009, p233). It is perhaps an important aspect of human resource management to consider the far reaching effect of delivering firing news to an employee. In the modern human resource management that pays a keen attention to teamwork as hinged to employee motivation and commitment, the domino effect of termination of services of an employee to the rest of the team may perhaps play a role in the manner in which firing is done (Redman and Wilkinson, 2002 p101 ). Teams have bonds that must bear some emotional resistance of disintegration if the employer has to gain benefits. The content with which the website captures the brief statement of the emotional aspect in firing cannot be underestimated in the website. To this end, the prescribed approach seems to augur well with the objectives of the intervention that must maintain good working relations between the departing and the remaining employees (Huber and Schuler, 1993, p86). A mention of the negative impact of legal suits from employees who feel unduly fired demonstrates the masterly of the costs of improper procedure in dismissals. In terms of accuracy, the authors of the website supply insufficient contacts information that can be relied on in seeking further clarifications on the issues contained in the website (Kapoun, 1998, p523). Despite a deliberate design of the website to indicate a contacts section on the webpage, only the email is available to refer to the authors. Alternatively, despite the deliberate inclusion of a section to detail on “who we (the authors) are”, the detail is conspicuously missing. This drastically drags the authority of the website into disrepute. Further looking into the details of the webpage reveals that no physical or postal address is given, making the rather good content of the brief presentation on proper employee firing to lose credibility. The authors ought to have indicated some undoubted contacts information to enable the page to pass the test of accuracy and authority. Another conspicuous misplacement in the presentation of the webpage is the designed graphics style. Tiny graphics located at the center of the webpage do not complement the single-colored purple theme that dominates the entire website. The same topic is deliberated on in the website represented by the URL www.urgentbusinessforms.com2. A different perspective is introduced by the website that apparently handles a wider range of related issues in a professional way. The authors provide very insightful and objective information on the termination of employment, which is given a legal highlight. Documentation of the employment engagement is emphasized by the authors, which gives the employee some protection from improper firing (Walsh, 2009, p584). While the document may also act in the protection of the employer, many employers are reported to abuse the legal position of employment termination. In terms of objectivity, it is apparently clear that the author attempts to offer advice to the estranged employee facing firing. However, the fact that the author immediately recommends several download links seems like a sweetened business language to entice the customer to download their forms. The fear of falling into the wrong hands of advisers seems higher since there are several other legal documents on offer on the website. Lawyers are widely known for their convincing masterly of language to twist things around for their benefit. In order to ensure that this information is not a mere business advert, scrutiny of the details of the information was conducted to reveal that the objectivity criterion must portray minimal advertising which is gravely disobeyed. In terms of accuracy, the website has a relatively better performance through the giving of email, postal and physical address as well as telephone contacts. It would perhaps appear inaccurate to rely on the information contained in the website if the contacts information is not provided. In terms of the graphics style applied in the website, there is coherence and suitability in the images, color themes, font type and size as well as the arrangement. It is perhaps more organized that the humanresorcemanagement.com website that did not have an image and a monotonous color theme that make the website relatively less appealing. In conclusion, while a perfect sample of a website observing the various criteria of analysis may be difficult to find, it is possible to rank websites on their closeness to the ideals. Apparently, websites are supposed to be an important communication platform that must be authenticated for reliance thereon to be likely to lead to the intended outcome (Kapoun, 1998, p523). In the discourse above, the websites from different authors; www.humanresourcemanagement.co.uk and www.urgentbusinessforms.com have been used to highlight the various criteria for analysis. While the first one seems to score particularly higher in objectivity, accuracy and use of graphic design are not equally appealing. On the other hand, the second sample website scores lowly in objectivity and scores highly in accuracy and graphic design.
